Johann Nestroy The vaudeville
The vaudeville is one of the classical genres which allow both to relax and to meditate. Its outwardly easy form with songs and dances conceals a much deeper meaning. The performance’ authors do not moralize. They don’t embellish the subject from the middle of the 19th century either. They just emphasize that it is still actual, and that makes all the personages to be truthful and their psychological development – convincing. What Johann Nestroy ridiculed in the middle of the 19th century of, is still vital in the 21th. And we recognize “a new Ukrainian elite” in the ironic portraits of Austrian nouveau riche.
